Charles Monk Jr
- Army

Charles R. Monk Jr. (Chip) passed away at 6:45 am on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Novant Health-Matthews Medical Center. A celebration of life was held on January 21, 2021, at the Providence Road Church of Christ in Charlotte, NC.
Chip was born September 23, 1948 in Miami, FL to the late Charles R. and Olga Rynning Monk. Growing up, his father drove race cars in South Florida,  prompting Chip to become an avid fan of Nascar. He also had a love for the Miami Dolphins, and stayed true and a loyal fan through the good times and the bad. He loved working on cars, and loved helping friends work on their cars. Chip was a diehard Patriot who loved his country and loved the military. He was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam and was an active member of the James B. Crump VFW Post 2423 in Indian Trail, NC.

Chip had a true passion for Christ and was a faithful member of Providence Road Church of Christ. Some of his other lives included the beach and being near the water; and good music, especially beach music and the blues. He never met a stranger, and loved kids. They were naturally drawn to him.

Chip is survived by his wife, Cynthia Schoen Monk of Indian Trail; daughter, Cheryl Monk (Arndre Marsh) of Yulee, FL; son, Charles Russell Monk, III (Kari) of Monroe;  brother, David Monk (Susan) of Southwest Ranches, FL;  sister, Sunnie Bauer (Robert) of Bay Village, OH;  grandchildren, Laurel Hall (Marteka) of Indian Trail, Madyson Monk of Monroe, Austin Monk of Monroe, and Adam Marsh of Yulee, FL; and by a host of great grandchildren.
